Jargon for Developing a Research Proposal
Many master’s degree candidates take long to finish their studies because they spend much time on research projects than taught subjects. Some of these candidates drop their studies after finishing course work as research becomes a challenge against completion. While academic institutions organise research workshops to support these candidates, unfortunately, they do not progress in writing their research proposals at the same pace. Jargon for developing a research proposal coaching initiative has been designed bearing in mind the foresaid challenges. Coaching consists of interactive hands-on workshops whereby candidates are exposed to the terminology used in research, at the same time they develop their research proposals. The targeted audience comprises prospective candidates for honours and master’s degree who are required to submit mini-dissertations or dissertations. At the beginning of coaching journey, each candidate comes up with his/her own working research topic which will be used throughout the course of coaching workshops. A research proposal template has been designed to be used for the purpose of coaching workshops. Main topics covered during coaching workshops include formulation of a research topic, how to write the background of the research, formulation of research objectives, hypothesis, problem statement, sub-problems, literature review, data collection, data analysis and writing up conclusions.
Graphic Design of Theoretical and Conceptual Frameworks
Many strong prospective doctoral candidates do not attempt to venture into doctoral studies. A few proportion of those who dare to register their doctoral candidacy withdraw at the early stage of their studies. One of the reasons is that they struggle to show the gap in the reviewed literature, hence fail to visualise the originality and uniqueness of their studies. Equipping candidates with skills for designing theoretical and conceptual frameworks has been proven to benefit them enormously. Coaching in design of theoretical and conceptual frameworks consists of interactive workshops intended for doctoral candidates whose thesis will adopt quantitative approach and where inferential statistics will be used to analyse data. The purpose of this workshop is to help candidates to visualise the gap in the theory, and conceptualise it into the context of their study. The importance of identification of dependent and independent variables is explained since these are statistically tested, out of which the interpretation of output helps to establish the contribution of the study to the body of knowledge. Coaching on graphical representation of theoretical and conceptual frameworks is limited candidates whose research studies seek to compare the difference between groups where intervention measures will be taken. It is also suitable for studies intended to get the relationship between data to establish the degree of association between variables and the prediction in cause-effect variables.
Reflective Comments on Research Proposals and Essays
Constructive criticism has been viewed as a valuable exercise that benefits research students at the early stage of their studies. Having peer or mentor who is willing to listen to them, to read their work, to hear the direction they intend to take is a bonus within their studies. Unfortunately, some students do not have such a privilege of having their peer around them when they are mostly wanted. During the absence of the peers, “Ignited for Potentials” is there for them to provide reflective comments. Reflective comments type of evaluation consists of reading and analysing the research proposal or research essay and provide educative criticisms using Socratic method. The Socratic method is a form of argumentative dialogue between individuals, based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to draw out ideas and underlying presuppositions. This method reinforces the authorship and stimulates confidence of the researcher. The evaluation also checks the logical connection between various parts of the research work.

Property Development Investment Appraisals
Any investor who decides to put his/her capital into property development is aware that this is a long process along which many stakeholders are involved at various stages. Whether using his/her own capital or getting it from other sources, time value for money is one of important factors an investor has to consider. This means, should the investor wish to sell the property after a certain number of years, he/she has to know whether the investment will yield profit or not during that period. As the investment requires many transactions, numerous calculations have to be computed to reach at an informed decision. In this regard, as far as the capital is concerned, the development cost has to be calculated, and this includes investor’s own money, how much money will be borrowed from the bank, acquisition cost including transfer and legal cost, and rate of return after tax. Property rental details in terms of rental income, and expenditure such as insurance, vacancy rates, operating expenses, and annual escalations on income have to be catered in. Further, financial details such as the interest rate of borrowed money, repayment period, the escalation of the property value, selling expenses, and taxes are very important features of investment appraisal. The coaching on property investment appraisals will therefore consist of step-by-step calculations of the above mentioned items to reach at the final figure upon which the decision will made. While the decision for investment is based upon quantitative and qualitative findings, the workshop is limited to quantitative method.
